um, isnt chapter 2 an EXPANSION?
as in, it requires the game to run, therefor, you cant buy it without having a copy of the original game to play it on?
mow, if chapter 2 said it was Guild Wars 2, then i can understand, but...its an add on, not a whole game in itself.
and the yes, bundling chapter2 with the game, or giving you a discount voucher would work ok, but the best way to sell a game more is simply to make it a great game to start out with, and make the add ons do stuff that will make people looking at the box want the original game so that they have access to the new stuff....
like getting peeps to by sims2 because they want a vampire boyfriend from Nightlife expansion....

If it is a pure expansion...you are correct sir! A new person wanting to get into the GW action would have to purchase GW chapter 1 to play...unless it is a stand alone game/expansion which does not require chapter 1 to play. I don't know how popular they are but a 'Stand Alone' is an expansion that includes content from the first game in the series and doesn't require the purchase of the previous games. Developer GSC (mainly dealing with RTS games) is quite good at this.
However, what happens in the future. Do they continue to deliver expansions for GW or create GW2?
It would depend on how the developer wants to continue the series. In the case of GW and GW2; without a monthly service charge...would they then shut down GW service entirely once GW2 is out? I hope not. If they just continuously build on GW by releasing periodic chapters (which is what I think they will do) then they can continue to fund GW by putting money from the sales of the new chapters back into the game. Once they start another project, it usually means the end for one project.
BTW does anyone know how other series handle this? I am personally guessing that they fund their service by using the 'pay to play' scheme. But how will it be for GW?

usually, if something is available to those who only have the expansions (like with neverwiter nights add ons) the items brought back are ..
not useable, not equipable and often not even viewable in game by those who do not have the add on in question.
its nto realy smart to alow stuff to back-track through the game like that, anyway.
and, unless they add some of the content for free in updates, such as the skills and classess, how would plyers that only have Vanila GW get a hold of the classess and skils?
so the new classess and races ect will only work for the peeps using the add on, but they will be *seen* by the folks with Vanilla GW.
case of, you can see me, talk to me and poke my armour, but you cant be me, or wear my stuff....we can play together, so long as i travel in your group, but you cant come with me to where i live, cause your not getting there.
so a character from Chap2 can go backwards to Vanilla, but a char from Vanilla cant go forwards to Chap2, unless they invest in the chapter itself...
oh, and P2P?...they stated that at no time would you have to paye to play other than to purchase the game and any expansions you chose to.
unless they did some trick like the premium rate everquest servers, or the premium rate neverwiter nights expansion purchase stuff.

since there are off worlders interfiereing in the lives of tyrians right now, there are more worlds out there that the Gods, in there creative vigours days, created.
what does that mean?
Travel to other worlds....meet interesting and new races and people..and then kill them

Yeah that would be awesome, lets go off planet !! My elementalist needs to swap out that crappy staff for a laser gun. Who needs mounts, lets put space cruisers into the expansion. I am tired of warriors, what I really need to create is a Space Marine / Necromancer an SM/N !! Give me elite gravity skills, I don't want to spam Fire Storm anymore, I want to spam Proton Field. Say goodbye to Fissure Armor, say hello to Anti Grav Boots :-)

Well it seems some of you like the idea of the raising the level cap and some dont.
If for some reason the level cap should be raised, I think it would be a cool idea to set this game up similiar to Ragnarok online, have the higher professions you can become, etc. and when you become that next level profession you'll start at level one (either everything reset like hp, energy, i dunno yet, just a suggestion) or not and they will be able to go up to level 30 or 40 with that class.
or just make it so you have to do some insanely long quest (like villainy but like x3 longer) and when you complete it you can become your next higher profession, and THEN you'll be able to go lvl 21+
Like..... ranger becomes like a full blown out druid or something, or he can choose between some other alternate.
or elementalists can become like... archmages or elemental archons or something. O_o
should the stealthy class come about (you know it will be made, its just a matter of time) that higher profession will be like.... i.e. rouge can become assassin or thug or something.
I always thought it was a cool setup, throwing in my two copper coins.

did i ever say anything about space and laser guns?
ever heard of something called spelljammer? no, probably way befor your time....let me explain then.
in that version of reality, all worlds and solar systems were each seperate and encased inside crystal spheres, and to travel between these planets and spheres, you needed a ship, no, not a space ship, any sea worthy ship would do, and a spelljammer throne and pilot. these throne were powered by MAGIC...not science, magic and mages.
there was no laserguns, no forcefields and no super science fiction stuff.
just lots of standard fantasy type characters, going about their daily dungeon and dragons type duities.
no one wandered about pretending to be jedi's, but the mind flayers did have the evil empire clones down to a tee ^^
thats what i mean when i say other worlds. not sci-fi worlds, no space ships....
more like a portal to the Abyss and a new world through it...like all smoke and mirrors and magic doors.
so no, you dont swap yout flaming sword for a lightsabre, but you might be able to get a different shade and shape sword, made from different materials.
like, we use metals for our armours and wepons, but on another world iron and so froth could not even be there, so they use something else....like the shell and obsidian swords the aztecs and similar used, another race might have toughened glass, because there is no metals...

Well, the best guess I can surmise is that they will have the new races/armor/skills available by those without the expansion by being able to see them only. Information downloaded so that they recognize new data. Access would probably come with purchase of the expansion. Items, however, is the only problem. It would be difficult to try to restrict players from buying/selling new items based on thier GW access.
From reading what ANet stated as thier plans, the new content is not necessary for those with GW(ch1) in order to play. So the pay to play is moved away from the primary picture.
